Some sketches from Merrion Sq. Sunday 10th May

There was a good turnout in Merrion Sq. and the weather was great, for a change. Also got to the free lecture in the N.Gallery, "Why artists Draw". Very interesting! Mary

It was a lovely day lots of sun, enjoyed the lecture too. I painted this one afterwards based on a pencil and marker sketch done in the park. James

That's superb work Mary. Prolific as always. How did you do the last picture, the tree? It's amazing. There's a real eerie feel to it which I love :)

Thanks Stephen. I brushed 'Quink', fountain pen ink...(remember?)over the page, previously, then used a water brush to draw with diluted ordinary bleach. You could use a dip pen also. Not advisable to use your best brushes with the stuff!

Wow I love the tree too, so atmospheric! Very nicely done. The other sketches are really nice too - capturing the moment, well done!!

Great work mary! Here did you find out why artists draw in the end? Financial? Anti-social? Rebellion? Rage? I'd love to know!

Brilliant effect. I'll definitely have to try that :D Thanks Mary.

Well, yes, Tom, all that and more! It looks like there are as many reasons as there are stars in the sky! Sorry, but my brain has sat down on remembering, definitely a case for having taken notes! A friend reminded me of one reason, " to record the world as we see it".

Great painting James, and it really was that bright and colourful in the park last Sunday. Hard to believe, with todays weather!
