Dublin Sketchers to participate in Harold's Cross Festival

Hi everyone,

The Harold’s Cross Festival have kindly invited Dublin Sketchers to sketch around the Harold’s Cross area in the run-up to the festival, which is taking place 13-19th of May this year.

So we will be sketching in Harold’s Cross one Sunday in March and one in April. And of course we will be there on Sunday the 19th of May too, as we have been in previous years, to sketch during the festival itself.

If you would like to participate in this and exhibit, all you have to do is turn up and sketch on the designated days (and any other day that suits you, of course) and make sure your sketchbook is available by the 15th of May.  You don’t have to start a new sketchbook for this, but obviously you need to have sketches actually done in Harold’s Cross!

The idea is that our sketchbooks and/or framed pieces will be exhibited during the Festival weekend, starting on the Thursday evening (16 May) and finishing on the Sunday (19 May). The sketchbooks will be secured to prevent theft (but bear in mind that if a sketchbook is stolen or damaged, we cannot be held responsible).

If you would like to participate, just send an email to dublinsketchers@gmail.com and let us know if you will be submitting a sketchbook (and what size it will be) or a framed piece (and its size too). If you choose to exhibit a framed piece, make sure you have enough time to get it framed and ready to hang.

We are participating in this because it’s fun and it’s a celebration of the art of urban sketching. The pieces we exhibit will not be advertised for sale. But if you are happy to part with your artwork, make sure that your contact details are available (name and phone number on a label inside the sketchbook cover or the back of the frame) so any prospective buyer can contact you.

The Harold’s Cross Festival is a community event celebrating everything that is good about Harold’s Cross.  It’s a place steeped in history. And there is a lot to sketch around the area, old houses, a beautiful cemetery, parks, cafés, churches, etc.

Harold's Cross is well served by public transport; Dublin Bus routes 9, 16, 18, 49, 54a and 83 (83A) pass through it, according to Wikipedia

Happy sketching!

Here is a map and guide of Harold's Cross, which I've taken from the festival website:

Sketches from The national Museum, Kildare St. Sun.24th Feb.2019

There was a very good turnout today in the Museum in Kildare Street.  The mild weather also encouraged some hardy members to venture outdoors and produce few very interesting outdoor sketches.  All in all a great collection was produced.    (Note:  Click on an image to enlarge it).

If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

Sketches from the Botanic Gardens - 17 February 2019

A gloriously sunny day at the Botanic Gardens - always busy, even in February. We were given special access to the Gallery, upstairs from the café, where we had panoramic views of the majestic green house and gardens, while staying warm and cosy. Thank you so much to all the staff at the Botanic Gardens!!
