Sunday 31st October - George Street Arcade

On Sunday 31st October, Dublin Sketchers will sketch around George Street Arcade from 2pm.  If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at your arrival, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know when we get together at 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

Note that the market is open until 6PM so it should be moderately busy. As it is Halloween day it could be fun to sketch people in costumes or incorporate some spooky creatures in your drawings. Pics and history of this gorgeous building here:   https://georgesstreetarcade.ie/gallery/

Rather than meeting in a pub or coffee shop, we'll gather outdoors to catch up and check out each other's work. At 4pm, we'll meet at Castle market (square outside George St Arcade where Grogan's Pub is). In case of rain cafés near include Simon's Place, The Market Bar, and many more. Benches and seats are hard to find in the area, so a folding chair comes handy.

If you would like your sketch to be added to the website, email it to dublinsketchers @ gmail .com or post it to the Dublin Sketchers Social WhatsApp group if you are on that. Please edit your image so that it is low res and properly oriented for posting to the website. If you're on Instagram, use #dublinsketchers #urbansketchers. See you there!

Sunday 24st October, at Merrion Square / National Gallery

On Sunday
24st October, Dublin Sketchers will be out and about in Merrion Square/The National Gallery to sketch from 2pm. Please keep in mind current government guidelines on Covid.

If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know when we get together at 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

Suggested theme of the week: Oscar Wilde

It was Oscar Wilde's birthday last week and if you'd wish to pay hommage to the famous playwright and poet, this could be a perfect opportunity. As you know he grew up in the house facing his statue in Merrion Square and studied in Trinity college before moving to London.

Other motives/themes: Yeats houses, the colourful doors of Merrion Square, the park itself and its sculptures, the National Gallery buildings, etc. In case of rain, we'll be able to sketch in the National Gallery opposite.

Rather than meeting in a pub or coffee shop, we'll gather outdoors to catch up and check out each other's work. At 4pm, we'll gather at the entrance (Merrion Sq.) of the National Gallery.

Sunday 17th October, from 2pm – Howth harbour

On Sunday 17th October, Dublin Sketchers will be out and about in Howth, to sketch from 2pm.

Howth harbour is accessible by Dart (30m from city centre). Lots to sketch there between the West pier with fishmongers, boats, seals, and views on the lighthouse and Ireland’s Eye, and the East Pier leading to the lighthouse, and near the cliff views, the Martello Tower overlooking the port, the main street of Howth village. Claremont beach (west, behind train station) and Balscadden beach (east) also offer interesting viewpoints. A 10m walk will lead you to Howth Castle. Folding chair recommended.

Rather than meeting in a pub or coffee shop, we'll gather outdoors to catch up and check out each other's work. At 4pm, we'll gather on the green opposite Insomnia (or in Insomnia) near Dart station. Grab a coffee / drink on the way. Plenty of coffee shops are open lots of space to sit on the pier cafés or Insomnia.

If you would like your sketch to be added to the website, email it to dublinsketchers @ gmail .com or post it to the Dublin Sketchers Social WhatsApp group if you are on that. Please edit your image so that it is low res and properly oriented for posting to the website. If you're on Instagram, use #dublinsketchers #urbansketchers

Access: Dart and buses, car (parking is free in Howth, please keep in mind that there can be a lot of trafic, so it is faster and easier by dart). Bikes are allowed on the Dart on Sundays.

Sketches produced on Sunday 10th October 2021, from the wooden Bridge leading to Bull Island, and surrounding area in Clontarf and Dollymount Strand.
