29 June-Chester Beatty

HI sketchers. This week we are heading to Chester Beatty Library. For those of you haven't been there before, it is at the back of Dublin Castle. If it stays dry outside, the garden area can be a good place to draw or the courtyard of Dublin castle and there's also a small roof garden. Inside there are books, paintings and sculptures from a few different religions. I personally like looking at the covers of the old books or looking at the buddha statues. The exhibition spaces are a bit dark to preserve everything so just be aware of that.

At 4pm we will meet at the Silk road cafe on the ground floor for coffees and to look at each others sketches. If you're new, introduce yourself to anyone that is drawing or painting and come say hello at 4pm.
This week's optional challenge is to imagine something from another era. If you are drawing something inside, you could imagine the figure is really holding a mobile phone or camera. If you are drawing people, maybe you could imagine them wearing something from a different decade or holding a scroll.

Sketches from Blessington st

Here are the sketches from Blessington st Basin. It was a really sunny day so almost everyone stayed outside while sketching. The park-keepers lodge was the most drawn element. Sorry for taking so long to post them.

Sunday 22nd June-Blessington st Basin

HI creative people.
This week we will go somewhere new- Blessington st Basin. It is about 5 minutes walk from O Connell st. We will meet at the Blessington st entrance at 2pm and then at 4pm we will meet at the Candy Cafe. To get to the park from town walk north from O Connell st (opposite end of the river) and follow the road and you'll see a gate that spans part of Blessington st. This is the entrance to the park. The candy cafe is at the corner of Frederick st and Gardiner Row, diagonally opposite the garden of rememberance. If you don't want to sketch at the park, Hugh Lane Gallery and the writers museum are nearby. If you are new and don't see anyone at 2, introduce yourself to anyone you see drawing or come to the cafe at 4- its not that big so we should be easy to find.

The optional challenge for the week is to do either a continuous line drawing( you don't take your pen from the paper so its all one line) or negative space drawing (google it if you don't know what that means.)

I have been trying to tidy up the email addresses so I deleted some that were bouncing back as unknown address or permanent failure. If you usually get an email and you haven't received one this week, can you email dublinsketchers@gmail.com and I'll add you again.
Thanks
Mandy

15th June-NCAD

HI again creative people. This week we are going back to school -for the graduate exhibition in NCAD. We will meet at the entrance of the college on Thomas st at 2pm. We will go to Arthur's pub at 4 for coffees (or something stronger) and to look at each other's sketchbooks. If you don't want to go to the college, you could try drawing the architecture of Christ Church which is not too far.
If you don't see anyone at 2 and you are new (people are sometimes late), introduce yourself to people you see painting or sketching as they are most likely one of us or come to the pub at 4. The pub is across the road and in the direction opposite to Christ Church.
The optional challenge is to think of sports or anything world cup related and incoporate that into your drawing- maybe draw flags if you are drawing architecture or if you are drawing statues or people, imagine they are playing football or basketball. http://www.ncad.ie/contact http://www.arthurspub.ie/
