National Library of Ireland - 2pm Sunday 16th October

Hi all,
We have very kindly been invited to visit the National Library this Sunday for a really special visit. The building is open Sunday afternoons, including the Yeats Exhibition. The Reading Room is closed to the public then, but that won’t apply to us! There is plenty of room to spread ourselves out throughout the Reading Room and the rest of the public parts of the Library.

We will be greeted in the front hall of the main library, beside Leinster House at 2pm. If you haven't been out with the Dublin Sketchers before, please just have a sketchpad in your hand and we'll make sure you are included.

Really looking forward to this one - see you there.

Marcia Moreno's Presentation at the Pearse Museum Sunday 9th October

Thankyou to all who made it out to the Pearse Museum this Sunday. It was great to see so many of you there. Marcia's presentation went very well and although unfortunately we didn't get around to much drawing it was very interesting and inspiring.

Here are some photos.

We've already had one follow up workshop last night (Monday the 10th) - everyone helped themselves to some nice food thanks to Jessica and after that it was all very relaxed and informal chatting around the fire at first and pretty soon the ideas were flying and some artwork begun...

There is still tonight and tomorrow night for those of you who would still like to come and for everyone who attends there is the chance of winning an art related prize. So maybe you're short on some art supplies who knows it could be worth your while making the trip. Also we can give people lifts home at the end of the workshops back to the general city centre and surrounding areas.

Pinning down the idea of Home can be tricky once you get into it.The image map here (thanks Declan) is one of the ideas that came from the Monday Night workshop and also using an illustrated letter (thanks Niall) as a way to present some ideas. Some food for thought anyway.

Pearse Museum 2pm Sunday 9th October

Work done by James Moore - June 2011

Hi all,

This Sunday we are heading for the Pearse Museum, to support our fellow sketcher James Moore in his recent Brazilian Irish endeavours. For information on James' exhibition and work, see his website here.
We will meet at 2pm at the entrance to the Museum to spend time sketching, then meet again at 4pm in the courtyard cafe for a chat over coffee.

The Pearse Museum is the former school run by Patrick Pearse, now a museum in beautiful grounds. It's set in St. Enda's Park - one of Dublin city's most charming and atmospheric parks, with its riverside walks, waterfall and walled garden. There's more information at http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/Dublin/PearseMuseum-StEndasPark/

Location: 8km approximately from Dublin City Centre. You can park either in the car park that you can access from Taylors Lane or there's a bigger one on Sarah Curran Avenue.

Bus Route: No. 16 from City Centre. The bus stop you need to ask for is "Grange Road (Sarah Cullen Avenue)" and then you'll see a sign for St Enda's Park / Pearse Museum - look out for the car park. Here's the timetable for the bus http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Timetables/All-Timetables/16/ You can pick up the number 16 bus on O'Connell street near the Gresham Hotel. From the timetable it looks like there's a number 16 bus that leaves O'Connell Street around 1pm.

Enjoy!

Tracy

Reminder! James Moore - Home, Home away from Home - this Saturday!

James will also be having a series of workshops linked to the above exhibition this Saturday- for info please visit his blog by clicking the poster!

Oktoberfest Dublin at George’s Dock IFSC - 2pm

Hi all,

Seeing as Oktoberfest is currently running in the IFSC, I thought it would be very rude not to visit. We will all meet at 2pm at the Northside of the Sean O'Casey bridge, from where we can wander and browse the area.

We'll meet again at 4pm at the entrance to Oktoberfest, on the river side, by the stone arch.

If you haven't been out with us before - just have a sketchpad in your hand and we'll recognise you.

See you there!

Autumn sketching - where to this Sunday?

We should really make the most of the beautiful Autumn colours that are appearing - where could we do this?

The Grand Canal by Mespil Road is always really beautiful, Phoenix Park, War Memorial Gardens, IMMA and its grounds, Trinity.. any other suggestions?

Airfield, Dundrum - Sunday 25th at 2pm

Hi all,

This weeks suggestion is for us to visit the Airfield Farm and gardens before it closes for renovations and refurbishment for a year and a half. It's a lovely time of the year to see the gardens and the cafe will no doubt be enjoyable once sketching is done! Website is here: http://www.airfield.ie Directions on how to get to Airfield are also here!

I have spoken to Eimear who has agreed to give us a concession price of €4 for those who wish to go into the farm, mention her name and that you are part of the group at the desk on your way in for the discount!
I hope you enjoy - make sure you send us in photographs of your work for the blog, bring a camera if you have one! Our resident photographer Mary is away for a couple of weeks and we are going to miss her!

All new sketchers welcome - just have a sketchpad out and you will be recognised :-)

Phibsborough/Royal Canal - Sunday 11th September

Hello all!

This week Dublin Sketchers are heading for the Royal Canal/ Phibsborough area as suggested by Mandy (thank you!) - where a community day will be running as part of Phizzfest. Their website is http://www.phizzfest.ie/

We're hoping for fine weather, but there are plenty of cafe's and pubs if we aren't lucky.

Everyone can meet outside the Porterhouse North, which is just on the Canal. From there - you can wander up the Phibsborough Road, towards St. Peter's Church. There's one event in particular of Phizz Fest that caught my eye - 1000 Amorphous Drawings - which will be running until 5pm on Sunday - check it out here!

So there you have it - meet again at the Porterhouse North at 4pm :-)

Enjoy

Hello all,

After a great day in St. Stephen's Green last Sunday, we have decided to go to the national botanic gardens this Sunday. There is a fantastic Sculpture in Context exhibition on at the moment to enjoy. We will meet at the usual time of 2pm outside the cafe and meet back there again at 4pm, when we will decide on somewhere to go for a cup of coffee.

I am away this weekend so won't be able to meet up - but look forward to seeing the work done next week!

Enjoy :-)

Tracy
