Dublin Sketchers get together every Sunday afternoon in Dublin to sketch. We go to a different place each week. Check here before hand to see where we are off to. Come along if you fancy it! We start sketching from 2pm and meet at 4pm for a drink and chat. We are part of the global Urban Sketchers community.
Sunday 12th - Dublin Zoo
Dublin Zoo is the exoctic venue for this Sunday's sketching session. As mentioned previously, this will be a longer session than usual, so we will meet at the earlier time of 11:00am at the main gates. Please note that there's an entrance fee of €15.

Banksy Petshop
British graffiti artist Banksy has opened his first official exhibition in New York.
Set inside a fake pet store, works such as a robotic monkey and fish-fingers swimming in a goldfish bowl aim to question the relationship between human beings and animals.

Party Party - Tomo 10th October 2008-191 Pearse St Studio
Its short notice but Aodhan will be hosting a party tomorrow evening probably kicking off after seven and all of the life drawers and TAW folks are invited to enjoy it. There will be music but if you play an instrument bring it along. Some food and refreshments will be provided. Help in the form of tidying the studio would be appreciated show up at six thirty to halp in Studio 191 Pearse Street - the usual spot where life drawing takes place. Extra Curricular Activity
Hey there. Some of us going to see Gomorrah in the IFI on Friday (10th Oct) at 20:35. This is an open invite so if any of the rest of you are interested please feel free to come along. I'll be going to the Oktoberfest in the IFSC first and should make it down to the IFI just after eight.
Gomorrah won the Grand Prix at Cannes this year. It's adapted from a book by Roberto Saviano depicting tales of the society created by the Neapolitan mafia. The book was largely based on true stories, the publication of which sent Saviano into hiding. Read the reviews and be forewarned it has the potential to be disturbingly violent in places and disturbingly nonviolent in others.
If you plan on going I'd advise buying tickets in advance either in person or online. Seating is unallocated so please be there early so we can grab proximity positions.

Sunday 5th October - St.Michans
Looks as if the horse fair was pretty much over so we all headed to nearby St.Michans - the church itself was closed but we all sketched around the churchyard grounds. It was lovely in the sun freezing in the shade.Here's the ones I did for the session.

next discussion meeting this thursday (9th)
from 8.30 pm in the Longstone pub http://www.thelongstone.com/ (if you come before nine they serve food, it is also very near to where the life drawing goes on, near the screen cinema) and they also serve coffee and tea all evening. I know we decided this date way back at the last discussion in September so I hope we´ll have a good turn out. I also know a few of you might be going to life drawing so you should be able to make it down after 9pm. I know people may have to work the next day so if we can even get some volunteers to organise the next sessions and if you can´t make it for thursday maybe you could volunteer yourself for oganising one of the forthcoming Sundays?
We also hope to discuss about how the website/ mailing list are working out and about the sketching weekend away. Hope to get as many of you as we can! Yours Sarah

Water Colour sketch of Heuston Station
Sun 28th Sept - what a beautiful day! Thanks SaraBo for organising it. Sorry I'm going to have to miss the Zoo and the Horse Fair (both sound fantastic ideas). I'm hoping to make it to Kilkenny early on the Sunday morning - so see you all there at some stage.

I'm not really sure how it happened but early one hungover Friday morning some links were clicked and some reservations made. It's not my place to say who clicked what or reserved which but it was all over very quickly and it's evident accommodation was indeed secured. Now I'll admit I had reservations to begin with but they were insufficient for our needs. We've therefore spared no expense in booking one of Kilkenny's better low budget hostels. We chose this fine town for the inaugural away mission mostly for its bars and partly for its magnificent castle and beautiful public grounds. We plan on heading down Friday 17th of October and spending two nights bonding in the reflected glory of future works. There are arrangements yet to be made, things like transport and whose round it is, but these can wait. For now simply sit back and rest assured that you'll be assured of rest.

Sunday 5th - Smithfield Horse Fair
Might be an idea to bring a nose-peg with you in case this one gets a bit whiffy! Unfortunately I won't be able to make it myself, but suggest you meet around the Smithfield luas stop at the usual time of 1pm. If it gets too cold or too smelly Collins Barracks is only a short stroll away, and has some good pieces for sketching. Thanks to Sarah O'Reilly for this weeks suggestion.
Regarding posting of photos from Sunday 28th Sept
Having major computer/usb software/hardware you name it problemos folks so haven't been able to upload those works of yours I took photos of - I'm working on it and will hopefully be sorted by the weekend. By the way if anyone is interested or lives in Blessington there is a big fundraiser for Spinal Injuries Sufferers in Ireland that involves getting 500 canoeists onto the lakes (some record maybe not sure), it might be good for water/action visuals etc- I'm gonna be there participating in a canoe (although to be honest my drowning skills are better than my canoeing or swimming skills ) aswell as doing a drawing/painting for them - if you feel like giving them some support or just want to watch it starts at eleven am and it might even be fun.
