Sunday 25th July - Ideas?

Hi all!

This week I think we are going to make a return to somewhere central (city centre ish) and gallery/museum orientated.

A few people have mentioned to us that we have visited too many festivals in the last while, so we will try make a move back to other locations for the next few weeks perhaps. I for one find it very difficult to concentrate when it is very busy around me, not to mention hold my hand still!

So - ideas for this week please - post in a comment or send us an email!

Also, please send us your photos of any sketches done as we'd love to put them up. It really does make a difference to see what people are working on each week, don't be shy!

Heres one, Tracy! The Sir John Lavery exhibition is now on in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square.

That sounds fantastic Mary! I'm not sure yet if I'll be around, it's my Father's birthday so I might end up at home. All depends on work..

Constantly on the go!

The RHA 180th Exhibition is also closing shortly and I hoped we would get to it as a group before it left. I think it finishes on the 31st July.

hey, just wondering whether we should all pitch in our ideas for a wishlist of things that we would like to sketch or places that we would like to go sketching in.

I find that recently we have been choosing events, festivals, exhibitions etc as places to go sketching. I must admit I don't think events are ideal places for sketching, sometimes theres not a whole lot to draw and other times its actually difficult to draw because there are too many people around (bah humbug).

my wishlist of places to go sketching would include natural sites eg howth head, wicklow mountains, forests, interesting places eg; poolbeg pier and lighthouse, vintage car shows, farms, the zoo, boatyards, buildings and a few people here and there.

maybe for places out of town we can arrange to share lifts

i don't mean to complain - im just keen to make the most of this great little sketching community we have.

Yes Rory I agree :)
We ask for suggestions each week to try and keep things varied but we don't get many suggestions unfortunately! :) Hard to make a list and work from it due to weather etc. but definitely, would love suggestions to come in and we can try to mix things up a bit!

We had been looking at trying to go to Malahide Castle at some stage over the summer and also the Casino at Marino. I'd love to go to Drimnagh Castle again if it was possible.. nudge James! That was really nice.

A boatyard sound interesting. I agree the problem is trying to juggle with the weather. Great to hear more opinions as it makes it easier to choose!

thanks for the reply Tracey, i know what you mean and this really was not meant as a criticism. you and james and stephen play a blinder in keeping the suggestions coming and keeping the thing ticking along. i can't come for the next two weeks but will be better at coming up with suggestions after that, cheers

No worries Rory - I totally agree! Would be great to vary it more :) Especially during the summer. May as well make the best of it!

Hi there, I know everyone would like to change tack a little but this weekend the Festival of World Cultures is on in Dun Laoghaire and it's really an amazing event. I think it will have something for everyone. Lots of colourful things going on along the streets and plenty of places to hide away from the hustle and bustle if you want to. It's got music, food, colourful costumes and tents and fun fairs, boatyards, seascapes and you can even see Howth :) http://www.festivalofworldcultures.com/

Hi Stephen I just saw an ad for it today, and I agree it can be very enoyable and you can select whatever aspect of it that suits you to sketch.
Also there is the harbour, boatyards and of course the views. btw, I thought this was always held later in August!

...and here was me going to head out to that on Saturday instead. Looks like the popular vote. Any more last minute suggestions?
