1st May Smithfield

On Sunday the 1st May Dublin Sketchers are going to the generator hostel in Smithfield. There will be a market on with live music, yoga and film screenings. There are a couple of pubs and cafes around that might be nice to sketch from if you find the hostel too busy.

The starting point at 2pm is at the entrance of the hostel.

If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone who looks like a sketcher at 2pm, just choose something to draw and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. New people come along almost every week so don't be shy about introducing yourself.  It's a nice friendly gathering and you'll get know us over coffee from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

Here's the facebook event page for the market https://www.facebook.com/events/150231308702462/

From 4pm, we'll gather for a coffee at the cafe of the Lighthouse cinema which is across the square from the hostel. A bunch of people who look like sketchers will magically appear.
If you need directions, the cinema has a list of buses etc that stop nearby.

This week's optional challenge is to create an image you'd imagine on a postcard since it's the start of the summer.

Hope to see you there!

Invitation by Marsh Library to draw

As part of Bealtaine, Marsh Library are inviting people to go and sketch there. It is closed Sunday's so we won't be going there as a group. I know the hours won't suit a lot of people because of work hours but here are the details for those who are interested.

24th April National Gallery

On Sunday the 24th April Dublin Sketchers are going to the National Gallery. There is an exhibition of 10 Da Vinci sketches. If you are interested in this exhibition, the website says you should book a ticket at website below. The tickets are free but they want to control numbers.
There is also going to be  a march/parade going from Merrion Sq to O Connell st which starts at 2pm that is related to 1916. If the weather is nice and it's not too crowded, you could possibly try and draw people at that.

The starting point for sketching is at 2pm is the entrance of the gallery. Here are the websites www.nationalgallery.ie and http://www.reclaim1916.ie/news/
From 4pm, we'll gather for a coffee at the cafe of gallery. A bunch of people who look like sketchers will magically appear.Since it's 100 years since the proclamation, your optional challenge is to imagine the past so maybe draw people in clothes from the past.
Callout: If there are any members interested in picking the places for May, can you talk to me or Jessica on Sunday or email dublinsketchers@gmail.com.
If anyone is interested in drawing tomorrow Saurday 23rd, there is a drawing group who go drawing in various parts of the country. They will be in Dublin this weekend and have invited any interested members to join them. Tomorrow they are going to the  experimental archaeology centre in UCD. They are meeting at 12. There is a map of meeting point on their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/sceitse/    In the afternoon, they are planning on going to wax museum and they are planning on going to Dr Sketchys in the evening. Anyone interested in Dr Sketchys should book tickets in advance as it is the last  session for 6 months and there will be extra people there. http://www.drsketchysdublin.com/  They are planning on visiting a few places on Sunday but may join us for coffee. Look at their facebook page if you want more information.
I hope to see you on Sunday

17th April- Farmleigh

On Sunday the 17th April Dublin Sketchers are going to Experience Japan Day at Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park. There will be a few performers or stalls that you can draw although if you prefer somewhere less crowded, the walled gardens and sunken garden are quite peaceful. There are not many benches though so if you have a picnic blanket or fold up chair or stool, it might be a good idea to bring it with you.

The starting point at 2pm is at the front of Farmleigh House.

From 4pm, we'll gather for a coffee at Boathouse cafe, which is on the grounds of Farmleigh. A bunch of people who look like sketchers will magically appear.

This week's optional challenge is to try creating something that looks anime in style.

If you need directions have a look at www.farmleigh.ie or the events website which is www.experiencejapan.ie There is also a bus running between Farmleigh and Parkgate st for a fee of €1 each way. More details on the event website.

Hope to see you there!

Some very interesting exhibitions in the Hugh Lane, and we were delighted to see their new gallery layout  as several exhibitions were all on the Ground Floor level.  I am always interested in the materials used by the different artists, so I have indicated what I think was used for each sketch.

They organize different drawing expeditions around Ireland and they are coming up to Dublin on the 23rd of April and they have asked if any Dublin sketchers want to join them. They are planning on going to Experimental Archaeological centre in UCD at noon that day, possibly into town afterwards to the Wax Museum and then they are planning on going to Dr Sketchys afterwards. If you are interested check out their facebook page for more information. https://www.facebook.com/groups/sceitse/?ref=ts&fref=ts  and if you are interested in the Dr Sketchys, you may need to book your tickets in advance at http://drsketchyireland.com/events/dr-sketchys-dublin-23rd-april-2016/   Some of the people may join us the 24th.
