Irish National War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge, D8

The Irish National War Memorial Gardens at Islandbridge, Dublin 8 are one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe. Designed by Edward Lutyens, architect and constructed in the 1930’s to commemorate the Irish who died in WW1.

There’s mature trees, roses, a temple, a tall stone cross and an altar, water basins with obelisks and four pavilions.

The river Liffey flows slowly past and is regularly used by the nearby rowing clubs.

If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone who looks like a sketcher at 2pm, just choose something to draw and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. New people come along almost every week so don't be shy about introducing yourself.  It's a nice friendly gathering and you'll get know us over coffee from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, some of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

At 4PM we will meet at the Patriot’s Inn opposite Kilmainham Jail and the RHK west entrance, uphill from the gardens.
