Dublin Sketchers get together every Sunday afternoon in Dublin to sketch. We go to a different place each week. Check here before hand to see where we are off to. Come along if you fancy it! We start sketching from 2pm and meet at 4pm for a drink and chat. We are part of the global Urban Sketchers community.
Sunday 10th October, from 2pm - Wooden Bridge in Clontarf
On Sunday 10th October, Dublin Sketchers will be out and about in Dollymount, Clontarf, to sketch from 2pm. Please keep in mind current government guidelines on Covid.
If
it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose
something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a
sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd
who you’ll get to know when we get together at 4pm. Don't worry if
you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and
pens/pencils etc.
The Wooden Bridge from
Clontarf links to Bull Island and the 5 kilometres long
stretch of sandy beach and dunes on the island's eastern shore; while the
island is located in Clontarf and Raheny, the beach is
called Dollymount Strand.
Lots to sketch there between the Wooden Bridge itself and the cottages on the island,
the star of the sea sculpture and the bathing shelters, Poolbeg and Dollymount
strand with Sunday walkers. Folding chair recommended. Beware not to obstruct
the pedestrian passages on each side of the wooden Bridge.
Rather than meeting in a pub or coffee shop, we'll gather outdoors to catch up and check out each other's work. At 4pm, we'll gather on the green on the seafront, left side before the wooden bridge. Grab a coffee / drink on the way. Some coffee shops are open, one on the island (Happy Out café) and one on the seafront opposite the start of the wooden bridge (Fishbone, yellow restaurant) which has tables and chairs outside.

Access: Bus 130 (Wooden Bridge, Stop 1751) or by car: Parking on the seafront past Clontarf village or on Bull Island crossing the wooden bridge, recommended if you wish to sketch on the island. Other option Dart to Clontarf+Bicycle

Sun 3rd Oct - #DRAWstonewalls at St Audeon's Church
On Sunday 3rd October, Dublin Sketchers will sketch at St Audoen's Church near the Liberties from 2pm and meet in the middle of the park at 4pm to chat and check out each other's sketches. Please bare in mind Covid advice.
We'll be participating in the #DRAWstonewalls event and competition for Féile na gCloch, Festival of Stones, that takes place most years on Inis Oírr but this year takes place virtually.
#DRAWstonewalls Competition Information
For those of you who have been to Féile na gCloch (Festival of Stone) on Inis Oírr, you may have taken part in the wonderful sketching workshops that take place as part of the festival. This year the festival is hosting a "Draw Stone Walling" sketching event. There will be spot prizes, with a first prize of a free event ticket to Feile na gCloch 2022 that will take place on Onis Oírr.
So wherever you are in the world and whatever age you are, get creative and get involved. You might want to draw, paint, cartoon or doodle your local dry stone wall or stone project that you are working on. Or you might like to sketch a scene from Inis Oírr or memory of Féile na gCloch. Check out some of the myths and memories on www.zibaldoneproject.com for inspiration.
Share your memories of the beauty of Inis Oirr’s dry stone walls and landscapes by taking part in our online sketching competition. This is an international competition that is open to all ages. To have your art included in the world wide event and be in with a chance of winning a prize, make sure that you post you photos or videos online using the hashtags #FeilenagCloch #DRAWstonewalls or email your creations to us at inisheeerzibaldone@gmail.com along with your name, age (if under 16 years) and country, and we will post all your creations on the Féile na gCloch website and the Zibaldone Project website and on social media.
Closing date for entries is Sunday 10th October 2021. Prizes include: Event only ticket to Féile na gCloch 2022, Festival Tshirts & Hoddies and more.
Drawing out the Stones - This video conversation with stonemason Pat McAfee might inspire you when drawing out the stones.
Drawing and mark making workshop - This is a drawing and mark making online workshop presented by James Moore who leads the drawing workshop at Féile na gCloch each year. As part of the artistic duo JesseJames, he was an artist in residence on Inis Oírr in 2017 and created the Inisheer Zibaldone project.
You can either follow the ideas and techniques in these videos and online workshops, or use your own creative mark making ideas to capture your memories of Inis Oírr and Féile na gCloch.

Sunday 26th September National Botanical Gardens Glasnevin
On Sunday 26th September from 2pm Dublin Sketchers will draw out and about at the
National Botanical Gardens Glasnevin.
The
National Botanic Gardens of Ireland are an oasis of calm and beauty, and entry
is free is free.. A premier scientific institution, the Gardens contain
important collections of plant species and cultivars from all over the world. Sculpture in Context 2021 is currently running
in the grounds. Join us for a lovely afternoon of sketching in beautiful
surroundings. Toilets at the main
entrance.
Rather
than meeting in a cafe or pub, we'll gather at the café at the main entrance at
4pm. Remember to observe Covid rules
If
it's your first time, just come along with your materials and paper. Say hello
to any fellow sketcher you see. Don't worry if you're late, we usually are!
