Hello All,
Dublin Sketchers will be sketching between 2PM and 4PM from
the Samuel Beckett Bridge on the River Liffey to Sheriff Street Bridge on the
Royal Canal (Guild Street) c. 0.5Km in length. This is where the Royal Canal
enters the Liffey after journeying from the Shannon River.
From here we can see 19th century rusted dockland
machinery, old and new bridges including Callatrava’s Samuel Beckett, St.
Laurence O’Toole’s church, new developments and a skyline of cranes.
On warm days local youths jump off Mayor Street Bridge into
the canal and from Monday to Friday office workers eat their lunches nearby.
A late Victorian house on Mayor Street bedecked in climbing rose’s
stands between the many massive new developments draped with a banner asking ‘Where
are our residents amenities?’
There’s a low stone wall for sitting alongside the canal
between Mayor Street and Sheriff Street bridges and grass both sides of the
canal for the full length.
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone who
looks like a sketcher at 2pm, just choose something to draw and get stuck in.
Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. New people
come along almost every week so don't be shy about introducing yourself. It's a nice friendly gathering and you'll get
know us over coffee from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, some of us usually
are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
4PM coffee at Café Nero close by at Excise Walk which runs
parallel to Guild Street and the canal but is one block closer to the city
centre.
Getting there: The Red Luas line stops at the IFSC or Mayor
Square. The Docklands train terminus is under Sheriff Street Bridge and many
buses run along the North Wall Quay. See you there.
