On Sunday, 3 September, Dublin Sketchers will sketch in and around the Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square North, Dublin 1 from 2pm and meet for coffee at 4pm in The Old Music Shop Cafe on North Frederick Street.
On the northside, the Hugh Lane Gallery has some fabulous collections, to rival any gallery anywhere in the world, and it is a lovely place to go into. It is full of surprises. Outside the gallery there is The Garden of Remembrance, Findlater's Church and Parnell Square itself with its Georgian houses, many with stories and history behind them. Find the secret doorway on the facade of the gallery! The name 'The Old Music Shop', of course, refers to Waltons- of happy memory.
The Gallery currently hosts an exhibition by Anne Madden, 'Colours in the Wind; Ariadne's Thread'. Poor Ariadne solved a famous problem with her thread so the optional challenge this week is to incorporate some threads in your sketching.
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone who looks like a sketcher at 2pm, just choose something to draw and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. New people come along almost every week so don't be shy about introducing yourself. It's a nice friendly gathering and you'll get know us over coffee from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
Here's a website for the gallery www.hughlane.ie
From 4pm, we'll gather for a coffee at The Old Music Shop Cafe, www.oldmusicshop.ie. A bunch of people who look like sketchers will magically appear.
This week's optional challenge is to incorporate threads in your sketching. Read that as you will!
Hope to see you there!
