Dublin Sketchers get together every Sunday afternoon in Dublin to sketch. We go to a different place each week. Check here before hand to see where we are off to. Come along if you fancy it! We start sketching from 2pm and meet at 4pm for a drink and chat. We are part of the global Urban Sketchers community.
Sunday 15 December - Grand Canal Dock area
On Sunday the 15th of December, Dublin Sketchers will sketch in the Grand Canal Dock area from 2pm and meet for drinks at 4pm at the Ferryman (35 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, D02 E448).
A few areas of interest for sketchers:
- The Samuel Beckett’s bridge
- Grand Canal Quay and its red sticks designed by Daniel Libeskind
- Pearse Square Park and its Georgian houses
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
From 4pm, we'll gather for a drink and to enjoy each other’s sketches at The Hill pub. A bunch of sketchers will magically appear.
If you would like your sketch to be added to the website, email it to dublinsketchers @ gmail .com or post it to the Dublin Sketchers Social WhatsApp group if you are on that. Please edit your image so that it is low res and properly oriented for posting to the website. If you are posting your sketch on Instagram please #dublinsketchers #urbansketchers

Sunday 8 December - Mountpleasant Square area of Ranelagh
On Sunday the 8th of December, Dublin Sketchers will sketch in the Mountpleasant Square area of Ranelagh from 2pm and meet for drinks at 4pm in The Hill pub.

If you are a regular sketcher and you are planning to enter your sketches for the exhibition at the Ranelagh Arts Centre next Spring, make sure to sketch on loose leaf paper. And remember that the idea is that we sketch on location, from direct observation.
A few areas of interest (see map):
Mountpleasant Square: One of the first suburban developments built in the city after 1801. Curved crescent terraces. Tennis Club and public park in the central green.
Did you know that sash windows are a feature of the architecture of sea-faring nations?
Old Mountpleasant : Opposite the entrance to Ranelagh Gardens and behind the modern school, you will find one of the oldest terraces of houses in the area. These houses date from the last decade of the 18th century
The Swan River: Flows East in a culvert through Mountpleasant Square. And now you know why the shopping centre in Rathmines is called the Swan Centre!
The Hill Pub: beautiful inside and out
Corrigans: Another pub in the area. Not quite as fancy as The Hill, but a good alternative if it's too busy or in case of rain.
