International Urban Sketchers Week is a global celebration of on-location drawing.
From1-7 may, Urban Sketchers around the world will be sketching and sharing. Anyone anywhere can take part in International Urban Sketchers Week.

So, what will we be doing in Dublin to celebrate the first International Urban Sketchers Week?
Wednesday 1st May, 11 am - We will be incorporating two of our themes here, a shopfront and part of the Anglo-Norman Dublin city wall. The shopfront is J.A. Powell Locksmith, located between Parliament Street and Fishamble Street, and the gate is Essex Gate. Meeting from 11am at The Bakery, Essex Street West, Temple Bar.

1st-7th May - we can't meet every day, but we encourage you all to sketch at work, at home, at a café, when meeting friends, with your family, etc. And share your sketches online on Instagram. Tag @dublin_sketchers #dublinsketchers #urbansketchers and #uskweek2024
Sunday 5th May, 11 am
We love Dublin. We love its history. We love its architecture. We love its people. So we're going to follow Dublin's old city walls from Viking and Anglo-Norman times, finding refreshments along the way.
Thank you to Chris who came up with the idea of ROWDY (Remimagining the Walls of Dublin) and shared all the information he gathered for this project, as well as the hand-marked maps. We are grateful to have so many people in this group who are full of ideas and enthusiasm.
Now, let's get practical. In order to fit all the steps along the way, we will need to start a little earlier than usual, 11 am. Let's plan to spend half an hour at each location. If you need refreshments on the way, we have included a map with options too. But you may need to skip a few locations to complete the loop. That's alright too. We will actually be skipping the part of the wall that follows the Liffey.
Dublin City Wall
- We will start our journey at 11am at the Record Tower, just beside the Chapel Royal in Dublin Castle
- Then we will walk across Dublin Castle towards Ship Street Little and Stanihurst's Tower
- We will cross Werburgh Street and Nicholas Street to make our way to Lamb Alley and New Gate
- If you're hungry or thirsty, you can walk down to the Brazen Head from here. Otherwise, head directly to Water Gate near St Audoen's Church
- Time to head towards Isolde's Tower and Essex Gate in the Temple Bar area
- And finally, onto Dame Street, Dam Gate and Exchange Court, just in front of City Hall at the top of Parliament Street. And we're nearly back where we started our journey.
Refreshments
- The Stag's Head. A classic Dublin pub (only opens at noon, though). If you prefer coffee, Chez Max just at the entrance to Dublin Castle opens at 11.
- The Lord Edward, a classic pub, across from Christchurch cathedral, opens at noon. Alternatively, Rosie's café opens at 9 am.
- The Liberty Belle on Francis Street
- The Brazen Head
- Lundy Foots in Temple Bar
- The Beer Temple, where we will all meet for drinks at 4pm. Whoever gets there first has more time for drinks!
