Dublin Sketchers get together every Sunday afternoon in Dublin to sketch. We go to a different place each week. Check here before hand to see where we are off to. Come along if you fancy it! We start sketching from 2pm and meet at 4pm for a drink and chat. We are part of the global Urban Sketchers community.

Sketches from around Iveagh Gardens and elsewhere, 28 Aug
28th Aug 2022- Iveagh Gardens
On Sunday the 28th Aug, Dublin Sketchers will sketch around Iveagh Gardens from 2pm and meet for drinks at 4pm in Costa Coffee, (14-16 Redmond's Hill, Dublin 2, D02 K237). There are lots of good spots to draw from.
Interesting fact about the place
Éamon de Valera, who was then both Taoiseach and also chancellor of University College Dublin, initiated inquiries with The 2nd Earl of Iveagh as to whether he would sell Iveagh House and the gardens complex to the Irish state. On 8 June 1937, this request was declined. However, on 4 May 1939 Lord Iveagh wrote to Éamon de Valera offering the Iveagh complex by way of gift to the nation. Lord Iveagh had been concerned as to the future use of the site, and specified in his letter of offer to Éamon de Valera that the Iveagh Gardens remain "unbuilt on", as a "lung" for Dublin. On 17 May 1939 this gift was accepted by the Government and Éamon de Valera wrote to Rupert, Lord Iveagh. In 1941, the Gardens were re-united with the college buildings of Earlsfort Terrace. However, there is, as of 2020, no public access to the former college buildings which are now buildings of the National Concert Hall and the planned children's science museum, Experimentation Station.
With the growth of student numbers at the university buildings, consideration was given in 1961 to building on the Iveagh Gardens. However, this did not occur and the university moved instead to Belfield, thereby saving the gardens. [source: wikipedia]
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.

On Sunday the 9th of June Dublin Sketchers will sketch inveagh Gardens from 2pm and meet for coffee at 4pm in D2 on Harcourt Street, Dublin 2
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
From 4pm, we'll gather for a drink in D2 on Harcourt Street ... a bunch of sketchers will magically appear.
This week's optional challenge is to sketch a statue.

Africa Day at the Iveagh Gardens Sunday 24 May 2009 1pm
We will go with Stephens suggestion of the...Iveagh Gardens for Africa day. There's bound to be a lot of colour and excitement. There'll be street performers, live bands, food stalls and a myriad of other activities. Also it's free in :)
We meet at the main gates at 1:00 on Sunday.

Iveagh Gardens has several entrances, Main one is just off Harcourt street about halfway up and another one is on Hatch Street near National Concert Hall. Getting there ; theres the nearby Harcourt Luas stop (opp Odeon bar, Tripod) three mins walk from Stephens Green, 16a bus stops nearby too

Oh yeah maybe bring colouring pencils, pastels, watercolours, acrylic paints whatever you are comfortable with to try and capture some of the colour. Really looking forward to this. Regards,

Dear all,
Since no one volunteered to post anything here... how about the Starbucks on Harcourt Street? I suggest this place just as a meeting point, we do not have to stay inside. There is canal and iveagh gardens nearby, as well as one charming but not so well known boulangerie, were we could go later for a much much much better then STB coffee+ pastries.
April 19 is known as a BicycleDay, so we can bring brightly colored pens and pencils this time to celebrate the days of yellow submarine.
