Sunday 2nd July - Mud Island Community Garden

Hello all,

On Sunday 2nd July, Dublin Sketchers are meeting at Mud Island Community Garden, Newcomen Court, North Strand, Dublin 3.

Mud Island is a Community Garden run by the residents of Ballybough who have kindly invited us to sketch there this weekend.  We will meet at the entrance at 2pm.

This is a place we have never been before and it may be a little difficult to find as it is hidden down a laneway behind a row of houses.  It is very close to where the North Strand Road crosses the Royal Canal.  Keep an eye out for a pub called Cusacks and a Café called Cloud Café, and you are very close.

At 4pm we hope to be able to provide you with a complimentary cup of tea/coffee inside the garden.  Feel free to bring your own snack or something to share if you like.

Dublin Sketchers is FREE – just bring your own materials.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks! .....and Help!

Thanks to Mandy, Elena, Marie Helene, Mauro, Jessica and Des for each organising a month of locations for Dublin Sketchers so far in 2017.

We'll need 6 more volunteers to organise locations for July - December.

Email if you are interested - it takes about 15 mins a week to organise and spread the word, and there's no expectation that you will attend the weeks you organise

Dublin Sketchers - weekend of sketching on Aran Islands in September 2017

Through connections with Pat, a regular with Dublin Sketchers, there will be a weekend of sketching on Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands, in September. This will be part of Feile na gCloch, or Festival of Stone, that incorporates stone wall building, stone carving and letter carving workshops.
The official brochure will be out soon, but here are the essentials of the sketching element of the festival, in case you want to start making plans.

As with our previous trip to the island, you’ll be responsible for getting yourself onto the island, and making sure you have accommodation arranged.

Around the festival schedule below, there is plenty of time to explore the island, as well as social time. Lunch is part of the festival cost, and most people eat together in the hotel of an evening.

Booking details are below.

Sketches from National Gallery of Ireland - 25 June

A brighter afternoon than expected. Yet, the newly-refurbished National Gallery was extremely busy. Still, everyone found a spot to sketch, indoors and outdoors.

Sunday 25 June - National Gallery of Ireland

This Sunday, Dublin Sketchers are meeting at the National Gallery of Ireland, Merion Square, Dublin 2.

Large parts of the National Gallery have been off limits for several years due to extensive renovations … and have been sorely missed by Dublin Sketchers. The Gallery has now fully re-opened and we’re looking forward to reacquainting ourselves with its many treasures.

As usual we will begin 2pm.  Since it’s mid-summer, we’ll suggest two options for coffee at 4pm, one indoor and one outdoor.

Option One:  The Gallery Café (grab the big table in the middle if you can)
Option Two:  Get a take-away coffee from Insomnia (Lincoln Place) and gather beside the cricket field in Trinity College.

Keep an eye on WhatsApp to see what we decide.  (If you’d like to join our WhatsApp Group, just reply to this email with your phone number and we’ll add you.)

If you haven't been before, keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and come and say hello. Don’t worry if you’re late, lots of us usually are.

Dublin Sketcher’s is FREE – just bring your own drawing materials.

Hope to see you there!
