This Sunday (4 December 2022), we will be sketching at Dublin Castle, from 2pm.
The OPW have kindly agreed to give us free access to the State Apartments. You just need to go to the ticket desk at the entrance and say you're with Dublin Sketchers to get free access to this spectacular (and warm) indoors space.
Note that this is a tourist location, so make sure to pick a spot that is not in the way of the tours that are given at regular intervals.
Also, we have been asked to use DRY MEDIA ONLY. No watercolours or gouache. No bottles of ink. This is an opportunity to try out pens, pencils, markers that may have been languishing in your studio. If that's not an option for you, there is plenty to sketch outdoors. We will meet together at the Long Hall pub on South Great Georges Street from 4pm.
Dublin Castle used to be at the heart of British rule in Ireland before independence. Lots of history there.
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm at The Long Hall.
Don't worry if you're late; most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
If you would like your sketch to be added to the website, email it to dublinsketchers@gmail.com or post it to the Dublin Sketchers Social WhatsApp group if you are on that. Please edit your image so that it is low-res and properly oriented for posting to the website.
