SUNDAY 30 SEPT - CHESTER BEATTY LIBRARY

This Sunday we are going to visit the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle.

The Chester Beatty has a special exhibition on show at the moment featuring paintings on loan from the collection of the National Gallery.  And, if the weather is fine, the grounds of Dublin Castle offer plenty of interesting subject matter.  It will be nice to gather in the city centre again after our recent expeditions to the suburbs.  Hopefully we’ll have a good crowd and we’ll all be inspired.  

We'll meet at 2pm at the entrance to the Chester Beatty.

If you're new to Dublin Sketchers, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketchpads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing

We'll meet again at 4pm at the same place to go for a coffee (probably at the Chester Beatty Café) and to enjoy looking at each other's sketchpads.

SUNDAY 23 SEPTEMBER - DROPPING WELL & NINE ARCHES BRIDGE

This Sunday we are going to visit the Dropping Well Pub and the Nine Arches Railway Bridge in Milltown.

The Dropping Well is an interesting old pub located in a picturesque spot on the banks of the Dodder.  The pub is ornately decorated both inside and out.  There are a number of sculptures of animals in the river and hopefully some real wildlife will also appear.  The pub is a short distance from the magnificent Nine Arches Railway Bridge, which nowadays is frequented by the Luas Green Line.  The Dropping Well is just three minutes walk from the Milltown Luas Stop. (The 128, 44, 48A bus routes are also within walking distance of the pub). The website for the Dropping Well is http://www.droppingwell.com/

SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER - BOTANIC GARDENS

This Sunday we are going to visit the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.

It's a good time of the year to visit the gardens as they are full mellow fruitfulness.  As a special treat, there is a "Sculpture in Context" installation on show at the moment.  So, if flowers are not your thing, there are some interesting sculptures lying around that could fire your imagination. 

We'll meet at 2pm at the main entrance.

Sunday 9th September we will meet at the Ranelagh Gardens park entrance under and through the Luas bridge (across the road from the Luas station in Ranelagh)at 2pm

Hi all, this Sunday we will meet at the Ranelagh Gardens park entrance under and through the Luas bridge (across the road from the Luas station in Ranelagh)at 2pm, it's a bit of a secret garden away from the traffic or alternatively there is the village of Ranelagh itself if you prefer.  We will meet again at 4pm at the same park entrance and decide on where to go for coffee.
If you are new look out for us we'll have our sketchbooks out.

This little garden is tucked away at the end of Ranelagh close to the DART station. Almost 2.5 acres in size with a lovely ornamental pond in the centre it is difficult to find. In 2008 a statue was erected here to commemorate Richard Crosbie who organised the first hot air balloon flight from these gardens in 1785 in front of 20,000 spectators. At one point in time the gardens were owned by an order of nuns and the public were not allowed access. When the land was sold for development the gardens were re-instated but on a much smaller scale.."

Sunday 2nd September Phizz Fest

Sunday 2nd September Dublin Sketchers are going to dawdle around the Phizz Fest up in Phibsboro. Website is www.phizzfest.ie. We'll meet at 2pm outside The Brian Boru pub http://www.thebrianboru.ie/ and meet back there at 4pm for a drink and to check out each other's sketch books. There's loads of activity around the area and boats larking about on the Royal Canal.

If you've not been before, you'll spot a bunch of friendly looking folks holding sketch pads - stroll up and say hi... If you're a bit late, sure, don't worry, it's Sunday afternoon and we're all a bit late! Get stuck in with the drawing and meet at 4pm in the Brian Boru!

Sunday 26th Aug Tall Ships Festival

On Sunday 26th August the Dublin Sketchers are going to play at being pirates at the Tall Ships Festival. Plenty of activity and a party atmosphere to capture on paper, and only a 10% chance of rain! www.dublintallships.ie is the place to look for info.


If you're an early bird, there's a farewell parade of the ships along the Liffey from 11am - 2pm. The focus then shifts to Grand Canal Dock.

We'll meet at 2pm in front of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (Grand Canal Theatre). We'll meet again at 4pm at The Ocean Bar for a coffee . Their website is http://oceanbar.ie/location/

Thanks to Elena for last week's idea to go the market in Newmarket.

This Sunday 19th August, we've been enticed to Greystones by John Kenny.

We will meet at Greystones dart Station entrance at 2pm and head out from there. It's the first time the Sketchers have been to Greystones, so come prepared for artistic adventure!

There's a harbour area and at the moment there is an Art and Photography exhibition. We will meet at 4pm at the Beach Hotel beside the harbour for coffee and chat.

According to the Dart Timetable there's a train leaving Pearse Street station at 12:57

which arrives at Greystones at 13:4. A later train leaves Pearse Street at 13:34 arriving at 14:25.

If you've not been before we'll be the people brandishing sketchpads at Greystones Dart Station at 2pm. If you are late just get sketching and find us at 4pm at the Beach Hotel.
