On Sunday, April 5th, Dublin Sketchers will sketch at the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts (RHA) from 2pm and meet for drinks at 4pm in O’Donoghues Bar.
This time we’re kindly hosted by the RHA, Ireland’s oldest artist-led institution. You’re welcome to explore and sketch the current exhibitions and interiors of this modern building. The trolley with foldable stools is located under the stairs in the atrium, and sketchers are welcome to take them. If you need any assistance, feel free to ask at the Front of House desk. If the weather is good and you’d prefer to sketch outdoors, you can also head to the nearby streets or parks: blossoming Merrion Square Park or St Stephen’s Green are both great options.
If it’s your first time out and you can’t spot anyone at 2pm, just choose something to sketch and get stuck in. Keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketchbook and say hello. It's a friendly crowd who you’ll get to know over a drink from 4pm. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are! You need to bring your own paper and pens/pencils etc.
Here’s the RHA website where you can find out more: https://rhagallery.ie/
From 4pm, we’ll gather for a drink and to share sketches at O’Donoghues Bar.
Please note: Easter Rising Commemorations will take place in Dublin City Centre on Easter Sunday, which may affect bus and tram services, so do check your route in advance to make sure you can get to the location without delays.
This week’s optional challenge is to try slow looking and explore one of the exhibitions with your sketchbook.
If you would like your sketch to be added to the website, email it to dublinsketchers@gmail.com or post it to the Dublin Sketchers Social WhatsApp group if you are on that. Please edit your image so that it is low res and properly oriented for posting to the website. If you are posting your sketch on Instagram please #dublinsketchers #urbansketchers
Hope to see you there!
